The Omega watch company was officially founded in 1903, however it originated much earlier. The forerunner of Omega was a swiss company called La Generale Watch co., which was founded in 1848.
In the 1890’s they invented a revolutionary manufacturing system, and the watches created under this system were branded Omega. They were so successful that the brand was spun off into its own company in 1903.
During the twentieth century, the company experienced many ups and downs, including mergers, bail-outs and takeovers, and are now part of the Swatch group parent company.
